Steve Bannon Ordered to Surrender to Prison

Former Trump Adviser Faces 4-Month Sentence for Contempt of Congress

Washington, D.C. - A federal judge has ordered former Trump adviser Steve Bannon to surrender to prison by July 1 to begin serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.

Bannon, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, was convicted in July 2022 of refusing to cooperate with the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols ordered Bannon to surrender his passport and report to a designated prison facility by 2 p.m. on July 1. Bannon had been released on bail since his conviction.

The judge cited Bannon's "willful and deliberate disregard" for the committee's subpoena as the reason for revoking his bail.

Bannon, a far-right podcaster and former White House aide, has said he will appeal his conviction.
